POST-insertion INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEN
Day 1: Post-Procedure Care
Your insertion site has been covered with two layers of bandages. The inner layer is a steri-strip, and the outer layer is a waterproof dressing. Do not remove this yet.
Apply an ice pack to the insertion site for 20 minutes, ensuring there's a barrier between the ice pack and your bandages/skin. Repeat this a couple of times over the next 4 to 5 hours to help with swelling.
Avoid getting the area wet.
Refrain from any major exercises, including running, squats, and heavy lifting with your legs, for the next 7 days. You may engage in moderate upper body work and normal walking on flat surfaces.
If bleeding occurs, apply firm pressure for 5 minutes. If it does not stop, please call the office.
Day 2: Monitor Symptoms
Continue to apply ice if swelling persists.
Avoid tub baths, hot tubs, and swimming pools for the next 7 days. You can shower, but do not remove the bandages.
If you experience itching or discomfort, you may take Benadryl (50 mg every 6 hours) for relief, but be aware it may cause drowsiness.
Day 3-6: Assess and Recover
It is ok to remove the outer bandage after 3 days; but best to leave it on for 5-7 days. Remove steri-strips on Day 7.
Check for any signs of increased redness or discomfort. If you notice worsening redness after the first 3 days, contact the office.
Maintain restrictions on activities, avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous leg exercises for 7 days.
Check for any signs of complications, such as pus or uncontrolled bleeding, and contact the office if they occur.
Week 2-3: Follow-Up
Assess how the insertion site is healing. Bruising and swelling should start to diminish.
If you continue to experience discomfort or if any symptoms worsen, reach out to your healthcare provider for further guidance.
Week 4-6: Labs
If you are due for labs, they are typically due at this time.
